Q: What inspired you to learn a second language?
I always had the dream to travel. I remember spending hours watching reports on TV, imagining myself travelling and meeting all sorts of people around the world. 😊
Q: What differences have speaking multiple languages made to your life?
Most of the time, when practising another language, I feel that I am travelling. It opens so many different kinds of horizons to your life. You have the privilege to meet and talk to people that you would never have imagined.
Q: What would you say to someone who doesn’t know what language to learn?
“Which language makes you think it sounds like a melody?”
Q: How many languages do you speak? Do you have a favourite? Are any more useful or subjectively better, and why?
I speak French, English, Spanish, and a dialect spoken by butchers in France called the Louchebem.
Q: What do you think is the best way to learn a new language? E.g. Apps, tutors, independent research etc.
The best way to learn a language is by talking to a native person. You can also watch some reports with subtitles and listen to songs you like, trying to understand what they are about. This is how I used to learn English and Spanish when I was a student 😊
Q: What is your favourite language and why?
My favourite languages are Spanish… English… le louchebem…and French… Well, I enjoy using all the languages. Spanish because It reminds me of the sun, the holidays and when I lived there. Hearing this language is beautiful; I think it is like listening to constant music 😊. I love when I can speak louchebem because it always surprises me as it is not very commune. Speaking English, I love it because it allowed me to meet some lovely people in the UK. And the French language, I absolutely love it; I think the French grammar is so interesting with so many rules. It is so rewarding to see a student enjoying learning it and improving.
